Palmer falls just shy of All-American status

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Every Oregon State wrestler was eliminated in the wrestlebacks on Friday in the third and fourth sessions of the NCAA Championships at the Scottrade Center.
Senior 133-pounder Joey Palmer advanced the furthest, to the fourth round of the consolations. However, he was eliminated by Michigan's Stevan Micic on Friday night, one win shy of All-American status.
Palmer finished the tournament with a 3-2 record and was 29-7 overall. A Pacific-12 Conference champion, three-time NCAA qualifier and Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, he finished his career with an 88-48 overall record.
Senior Joey Delgado (149), redshirt juniors Jack Hathaway (141) and Cody Crawford (hwt.) and redshirt sophomore Corey Griego (197) were eliminated on Friday in the wrestlebacks.
Hathaway (19-13) pinned Noah Forrider of Ohio in 3:41 in his first match. He then was pinned by 15th-seeded Tyler Smith of Bucknell in 6:08 and was eliminated with a 2-2 tournament record.
Delgado (19-12) was eliminated following a 6-1 loss to Matthew Zovistoski of Appalachian State, who he pinned earlier this year. He was 82-50 in his career, with three NCAA appearances and one Pacific-12 Conference title.
Griego (25-10) was eliminated after a 4-2 loss to Matt Williams of CSU Bakersfield. Griego had defeated Williams, a teammate at Sultana High School in Apple Valley, Calif., twice this season.
Crawford (24-9) defeated 10th-seeded Nathan Butler of Stanford for the third time this season, 6-0, in his first match. He then fell 6-0 to 15th-seeded Nick Solomon of Pittsburgh and was eliminated.
