Last Game
Oregon State swept a doubleheader over Ball State Friday at Goss Stadium, winning game one, 5-0, and game two, 5-1. Luke Heimlich struck out 11 over eight innings, tying a career-best, to claim game one, then watched as Trevor Larnach drove in three thanks to a two-run single and a sacrifice fly to send the Beavers to the win in game two. The victories sent the Beavers to an eight-game win streak. OSU has now swept three doubleheaders this season.
Limit Runs, Win Games
The Beavers limited Ball State to less than two runs in both of Friday's victories. Oregon State has held opponents to two runs or less in 12 of 14 games this season. Naturally, the Beavers are 12-0 when that happens. OSU gave up three runs to Duke in the second game of the season, a 6-3 win, and six runs to Ohio State on Feb. 24, a 6-1 loss.
Scoreless Streak
Ball State's Sean Kennedy hit a second-inning home run in the second game of the doubleheader to snap a 27-inning scoreless streak for the Oregon State staff. The Beavers had held Ball State scoreless for the first 19 innings of the series, and after allowing a solo run to UC Davis in the finale of that series, went eight scoreless against the Aggies.
Madrigal And The Long Ball
Nick Madrigal's home run in the first game was his third of the season, and fourth of his career. His team-leading three also rank him third in the Pac-12 Conference.
Those First Two Innings
Oregon State outscored Ball State, 2-1, in the first two innings combined over the two games. The Beavers have now outscored opponents, 35-5, in the first two innings of games this season.Â
Singles
• Opponents are batting .145 against the Beavers over the last five games.
• Oregon State's team earned run average of 1.14 leads the nation.
• Saturday's series finale against the Cardinals marks the Beavers final non-conference game before opening Pac-12 action Thursday of next week at Arizona State.
• Nick Madrigal carries a six-game hit streak into Saturday's game, going 10-for-22.
