CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 2016 Oregon State cross country team was named an NCAA Division I Scholar Team of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 11th year in a row on Thursday.
Â
The Beavers led the Pacific-12 Conference with a cumulative 3.63 grade-point average. Nine conference schools were honored.
Eight members of the 2016 team earned Pacific-12 Conference All-Academic honors. Every team member to meet the eligibility requirements was honored.
First-team all-academic selections were seniors Samantha Lewis and Emily Weber. Sophomore Juliana Mount was a second-team choice. Senior Morgan Anderson, juniors Kala Kopecek and Kristiane Width and sophomores Nicole Goecke and Sam McKinnon all earned honorable mention.
Weber is a three-time, first-team selection. Lewis was a second-team choice in 2015.
"This is impressive when you think of their majors, the time they each spend on their academics, internships, community service, leadership programs that a lot of us are unaware of, and their commitment to their teammates, program and sport!" coach Kelly Sullivan said.
Â
"When you see any of them, take a moment and congratulate them. I work with them every day and they truly are an amazing group, following in the footsteps of the others we have had" in the program before the current team.
Â
Team members were Monica Anderson, Morgan Anderson, Emily Bacon, Holly Cavalluzzo, Sara Christianson, Brooke Chuhlantseff, Charlotte Corless, Nicole Goecke, Kaely Gordon, Rachel Johnson, Kala Kopecek, Samantha Lewis, Emily Mackay, Sam McKinnon, Gwyneth McMorris, Juliana Mount, Lexi Reed, Mikayla Sodersten, Kim Solberg, Emily Weber and Kristiane Width.
