Beavers return to Seattle for second meet
February 08, 2017 | Women's Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State track & field team resumes the 2017 indoor season this weekend at the Husky Classic at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
Competition starts on Friday and continues through Saturday afternoon. It is the second of three meets in an indoor season that culminates with the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Feb. 24-25, also at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
Several Beavers will make their season debuts on Saturday. Tarisa Olinski, Kim Solberg and Gwyneth McMorris in the 800, Sam McKinnon in the 3,000, and Alba Villaronga in the 60 hurdles.
Also, Juliana Mount, Morgan Anderson and Lexi Reed will drop down to the mile after running the 3,000 at the season-opening Washington Invitational two weeks ago. Mount set the school record (9:33.62) and Anderson ran the No. 4-best time (9:43.76) in that race.
Kara Hallock will run the 400 and 60 hurdles after competing in the pentathlon two weeks ago. Jasmin McKenzie will go in the 60 and the long jump after just jumping two weeks ago.
"I am eager to see how our athletes running for the first time this winter compete in a larger setting," OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said. "We dropped JJ [Mount], Morgan and Lexi down to a shorter race because they all ran very hard over the longer distance two weeks ago.
"I am also excited to see Kara perform in individual events, after having some time to recover from the pentathlon," where she scored 3,652 points, just 144 short of her PR of 3,796. "And Sam McKinnon looks great after battling some health issues in cross country last fall."
The Beavers set two school records and had 11 all-time Top 10 performances two weeks ago at the aforementioned Washington Invitational. The other school record-setter was junior Kerissa D'Arpino in the 60 (7.58).
The Beavers are idle next weekend. They conclude the indoor season at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships, set for Feb. 24-25 at the Dempsey Indoor Center. The outdoor season starts March 17-18 at the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Portland.
