Senior earns another piece of national recognition
CORVALLIS – Oregon State standout Sydney Wiese has been named to the Dawn Staley Award Midseason Watch List, the award's selection committee announced Tuesday.
Wiese is one of 19 players to make the list, which highlights the top candidates for the most outstanding collegiate guard in the country; a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn Staley possessed during her career. Balloting for the award will take place in March, with the winner being announced the weekend of the Final Four.
Wiese, who has already been named to the watch lists for the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy, Wade Trophy, Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and Lieberman Award, is the Pac-12's career record holder for 3-pointers. The senior is already in the top-seven in Oregon State history in career points, and is second in the program in career assists. Wiese leads the Beavers 15.2 points per game, as is among the top three in the nation in 3-point percentage.
Off the floor, Wiese is a Senior CLASS Award candidate. The Speech Communication major is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, and has launched her own web series in conjunction with Oregon State gymnast Megan Jimenez.
As a team, Oregon State is currently ranked No. 9 in the AP Poll, and is atop the Pac-12 standings with a league record of 11-1. The Beavers will be at home this weekend, as they take on USC at 8 p.m. on Friday and UCLA at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
