Beavers Come From Behind to Beat Wildcats in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 14 Oregon State gymnastics team (5-1) executed a second half come-from-behind win to pick up its first Pac-12 win of the season, 196.200-195.375, Saturday evening. It marks the third straight meet the Beavers have exceeded the 196-point mark.

"It was nice to get another win on the road," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "I'm pleased with this performance but also know that we can be even better. We made some adjustments to our lineups during warm-ups. But staying focused and competing this well and coming away with a solid score and the win is great for us."

Senior All-American Kaytianna McMillan, who was the meet's only all-arounder, scored 39.450 including a season-best 9.875 on the balance beam.

Oregon State took the early lead, 48.950-48.875, despite opening the meet with a fall on the uneven bars. The second half of the lineup finished the stanza with strong performances as McKenna Singley scored 9.825, Kaytianna McMillan tallied 9.850 and Erika Aufiero posted a team-high 9.875.

In the second rotation, the Beavers hit all six vaults with Mary Jacobsen sticking her landing to establish a career-best with a 9.875 to tie with Dani Dessaints and Arizona's Skyler Sheppard for the event title. As a team, OSU scored 49.100 but trailed at the midway point 98.150-98.050.

The Beavers scored 49.025 on the floor exercise, their strongest event this season, retaking the lead as the Wildcats were forced to count a fall on the balance beam. McMillan posted the Beavers' first 9.90 of the evening in the anchor spot. Isis Lowery added a score of 9.825 and Madeline Gardiner received a mark of 9.80 on the floor.

Heading into the final rotation leading 147.075-146.400, the Beavers used a strong finish on the beam including a career-high tying 9.950 from Gardiner, a 9.875 from McMillan and a pair of 9.85's from Silvia Colussi-Pelaez and Dessaints to tally a team score of 49.125.

The Beavers return to Gill Coliseum next Saturday to host Utah in the annual DAM Cancer meet. The meet is set for a 2 p.m. start.
