Eubanks Posts Double-Double Against ASU

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sophomore center Drew Eubanks scored a game-high 22 points and nearly matched his career high with 17 rebounds on Saturday in an 81-68 loss to Arizona State at Gill Coliseum.
Eubanks had several authoritative dunks and was 7 of 11 from the field and 8 of 10 from the foul line in authoring his sixth double-double of the season and the seventh of his career.
Eubanks set his career high of 18 rebounds against Lamar back on Nov. 16, 2016. He added a blocked shot to begin a new streak in that category; his old one was snapped at 17 games in a row, three short of the school record, against Arizona on Thursday night.
Sophomore guard Stephen Thompson Jr. had 15 points and five assists in his 17th consecutive game in double figures since returning to the lineup on Dec. 1 after a six-game absence with a foot injury He has 16 or more points in nine of those games, and 62 points in his last three starts.
Guard JaQuori McLaughlin had 10 points, the 16th double-figure scoring game of his freshman campaign. He dished out six assists, giving him 19 in his last three games and a team-high 75 for the season.
The Beavers (4-20, 0-11) started quickly and led 12-6 with 13:37 remaining in the first half. However, ASU went on a 14-0 tear over the next three minutes to go ahead 20-12. It closed the half with a 13-4 run to build a 44-25 intermission advantage.
OSU made several brief runs at the lead in the second half and was within 58-49 with 10:12 to play following two Eubank's free throws. But ASU responded with a 9-2 run to re-establish a comfortable 16-point edge and built the margin to 20 (73-53) at its zenith.
The Beavers outrebounded ASU 43-27 and had a 30-22 edge in points in the paint, a 15-9 advantage in second-chance points and a 12-4 edge in bench points, led by junior guard Ronnie Stacy's six-point effort, his second-highest output of the season.
The Beavers resume Pac-12 action at 8 p.m. Thursday when they face USC at the Galen Center in Los Angeles in the opener of their Southern California road trip. The game will be televised by Pac-12 Networks.
