CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State senior Joey Palmer cracked the national rankings as a 133-pounder for the first time this season on Tuesday.
The reigning Pacific-12 Conference champion is ranked No. 17 by InterMat, and No. 20 by the Amateur Wrestling News in this week's rankings after his victory at the Pac-12 Championships this past Sunday. He edged Connor Schram of Stanford 5-4 in the finals.
Palmer has won 10 matches in a row and is 12-1 overall to improve to 26-5 overall. He was ranked at 141 pounds during the first six weeks of the season but had not been ranked at his new weight since changing weight classes for the Feb. 13 dual at Northern Colorado.
He has five major decisions and four technical falls, good for 13 bonus points, as a 133-pounder. His only loss at 133 was to Alec DelVecchio of Rutgers.
Pac-12 197-pound champion Corey Griego (24-8) is ranked 18th by Amateur Wrestling News and InterMat. The redshirt sophomore is on an eight-match winning streak.
Redshirt junior heavyweight Cody Crawford (22-7), the Pac-12 runner-up, is ranked 17th by the Amateur Wrestling News.
Senior Joey Delgado (18-10) dropped out of the rankings after taking third at the Pac-12 Championships.
The Open Mat did not release rankings on Tuesday.
Palmer, Griego, Crawford, Delgado and redshirt junior Jack Hathaway (141) all qualified for the NCAA Championships, set for March 16-18 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
