Hallock takes third in MPSF pentathlon

SEATTLE, Wash. – Senior Kara Hallock placed third in the pentathlon on Friday to lead the Oregon State track & field team on the opening day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation indoor championships at the Dempsey Indoor Center in Seattle.
Hallock scored 3,914 points in the competition, comprised of the 60-meter hurdles, the 800, the shot put, the long jump and the high jump. Her former PR was 3,796 points at last year's championships; the school record is 4,088 points, set by Sonya Crowther in 1982.
The Beavers set four school records and posted eight all-time top-10 times or marks at the meet, which resumes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the shot put and high jump. They scored 11 points on Friday, are in 12th place and are poised to improve on last year's performance, when they placed 12 of 19 teams, with 14 points.
School records were set by:
Freshmen Lindsay McShane (49-0.75) and Sydney Guthrie-Baker (44-5.50) PRed in the weight throw with new No. 3 and No. 4 all-time marks.
The Beavers have set seven school records and posted 28 all-time top-10 times or marks in their three meets this winter.
They set one school record and had nine top-10 times or marks at the Husky Classic on Feb. 10-11, and set two school records and 11 all-time top 10 performances at the Washington Invitational on Jan. 27-28.

- Kerissa D'Arpino, who took eighth in the 200 meters in 24.65 to break Venessa D'Arpino's former standard of 24.67. Venessa ran 7.68 and place ninth.
- Venessa D'Arpino in the 60 (7.55). She and Kerissa (7.57) each broke Kerissa's old record of 7.58 in the 60 meters and flipped-flopped as No. 1 and No. 2 on the all-time list. Neither advanced to Saturday's finals, however.
- Gillette Field, who took 13th in the pole vault in a school-record 12-6.25, nearly eight inches higher than her former indoor PR of 11-6.75. Helen Ann Haun, who took 17th on Friday in 12-0.50, set the old mark of 12-1.50 in 2016.
- The 4,000-meter distance medley relay foursome of Juliana Mount (1,200), Kerissa D'Arpino (400), Gwyneth McMorris (800) and Morgan Anderson. They took fifth place in 11:24.59 to shatter the former school mark of 11:32.53 by nearly eight full seconds.
