RQS
This week's rankings have shifted from scoring average to Regional Qualifying Scores (RQS). A team's RQS is determined by taking the six best scores, three of which must come on the road, dropping the high score and then averaging the remaining scores. This week, after scoring 196.825 at California, the Beavers dropped their road score from Seattle Pacific (194.525).
QUICKLY
Oregon State is ranked in the top 20 on all four events: vault is 14th (49.070 average); uneven bars is 12th (49.095); balance beam is 15th (49.050); and floor exercise is ranked 11th (49.120) ... In the spirit of the DAM Cancer meet two weeks ago, OSU gymnasts Halli Briscoe, Mariana Colussi-Pelaez, Jaime Law and McKenna Singley, along with OSU women's basketball star, Sydney Wiese, participated in Haircuts for Cancer. Colussi-Pelaez and Law were scheduled for the event, while Briscoe and Singley jumped in spur of the moment ... Tanya Chaplin is in her 20th season as the Beavers' head coach and won the 300th regular season win of her career earlier this month at Seattle Pacific ... Three freshmen, Destinee Davis, Sabrina Gill and Isis Lowery, have made their collegiate debuts in 2017 ... Fellow freshman, Halli Briscoe has also performed in exhibition ... Erika Aufiero, who missed the entire 2016 campaign, and Dani Dessaints, who suffered a season-ending injury prior to the season's second meet, made their return to competition for the season-opener.
VS. STANFORD
Oregon State meets Stanford for the 90th time Friday evening. The Beavers hold a 59-30 lead in the all-time series. However, the Cardinal have defeated OSU 12 out of 19 times on The Farm. Oregon State beat Stanford twice in 2016, 196.325-196.250 in walk-off fashion in Corvallis when then-freshman McKenna Singley scored 9.90 on the final floor routine to secure the win for the Beavers, and again at Pac-12 Championships in Seattle.
LAST WEEK VS. CALIFORNIA
Oregon State 'hit' 24-for-24 for the fourth time in five meets last Saturday and tallied its second-highest team score of the season but came up short at California, 197.075-196.825. Senior do-everything's Madeline Gardiner and Kaytianna McMillan tied for the all-around lead with matching totals of 39.425. Gardiner tied her career-best with a near-perfect 9.95 on the balance beam. The Beavers achieved the 49-point plateau on all four events for the third time in 2017 including a season-best 49.350 on the beam. Due to circumstances, OSU was forced into a change up on the floor exercise where senior Silvia Colussi-Pelaez made her OSU debut with a team-high 9.875 to match her score on the balance beam.
TEAM NOTES
• The Beavers have counted two falls in 2017, one on bars and one on beam ... both came in a win at Seattle Pacific ... OSU counted just one missed routine in 2016.
• Oregon State has 'hit' 161 out of 168 (95.8%) routines in 2017 ... in comparison, the Beavers 'hit' 276 out of 290 (95.2%) routines last year.
• The Beavers went 24-for-24 for the first time this season in the third meet of the season, against Northern Illinois & Seattle Pacific, and accomplished the feat the very next week against UCLA, for a second time. In 2016, it took until the season's seventh meet to 'hit' all 24 routines.
• Oregon State has 'hit' 24-for-24 in four of it's last five meets (two straight) ... the one miss was the opening routine (uneven bars) at Arizona.

• Seven out of OSU's 10 opponents on the 2017 schedule were ranked in the preseason Top 36; No. 4 UCLA, No. 6 Utah, No. 8 Auburn, No. 10 California, No. 11 Stanford, No. 18 Arizona and No. 20 Washington.
• Eighteen of Oregon State's 20 gymnasts earned 3.0 or higher GPA's during fall term.

TANYA CHAPLIN
Here are some quick hitters about head coach Tanya Chaplin:
• In her 20th season as head coach at Oregon State.
• Holds the Oregon State record for wins during the regular season as well as overall. She set the record at the 2014 home opener with a 196.425-194.850 victory over Iowa State. Now in her 20th season Chaplin has 374 career wins including 302 victories during the regular season.

WHICH WAY DO WE GO?
The Beavers, like every other team in the country, are seeking to qualify to the NCAA Championships and the Super Six. But to reach that goal teams must get through NCAA Regionals. In 2017, regionals will be held at Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Nebraska, Washington and West Virginia. The top two finishers at each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Mo.
CONFERENCE OF CHAMPIONS
In the preseason coaches poll, the Pac-12 Conference had seven of its eight teams ranked in the Top 36, which is the number of teams that qualify to NCAA Regionals. Currently, Utah is ranked No. 5, followed by No. 6 UCLA, No. 10 Oregon State, No. 18 Washington, No. 19 California, No. 28 Arizona and Stanford is No. 31.
THREE MORE FOR 2018
In November, two gymnasts signed the National Letters of Intent to join the Oregon State gymnastics program for the 2017-18 academic year. Savanna Force (Reno, Nev.) and Kaitlyn Yanish (Chandler, Ariz.) are scheduled to enroll at Oregon State this coming summer. In addition, Alexis Gonzales (Newport Beach, Calif.) signed an intent to enroll and will also join the OSU gymnastics program in July.
