
Beavers Split Day at Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUSES, N.M. – The Oregon State softball team recorded a split record today at the Troy Cox Classic. The Beavers suffered an 18-8 loss to Bradley, before rebounding with a 6-2 victory in the nightcap against New Mexico State.

GAME 1 vs. BRADLEY
The Beavers struggled early against Bradley, as the Braves racked up nine runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead, which they would not surrender.Â

Oregon State chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs and added three more in the second to trail 9-5. The Beavers went on to pull within a run in the fourth inning after Natalie Hampton and Alysha Everett hit home runs.

The Braves wouldn't let the Beavers get comfortable, as they increased their lead in the fifth to four and went on to secure the victory with six runs in the sixth to snuff any comeback by the Beavers.

Lovie Lopez, Hampton, and Everett all recorded multiple hits in the loss. The Beavers used all four pitchers in the game, but Taylor Cotton recorded the loss after earning the start.

GAME 2 vs. NM STATE
In the nightcap, the Aggies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first frame and held it through the heart of the game.

The Oregon State offense finally came alive in the fifth inning, after Alysha Everett recorded a fielder's choice to score Shelby Weeks and to get the Beavers on the board. Sammi Noland followed with her second homerun of the season with a three-run shot to center field to gain a 4-2 lead. Alyssa Pelegrin would add to the scoring with her first home run of her career with a solo bomb to left.

Oregon State added an insurance run in the sixth after Natalie Hampton singled up the middle to score Lovie Lopez, before the Beavers closed the game out for the victory.

Shelby Weeks led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, while Noland added two hits.

Nerissa Eason picked up the win after hurling the complete game. The freshman recorded four hits, while punching out six batters en route to her fourth win of the season.

Oregon State (6-1) will close the Troy Cox Classic tomorrow afternoon, with a game against No. 15/14 Tennessee starting at 1:00 p.m., (Noon PT).
