Wiese hits four 3-pointers in win
BOULDER, Colo. – The Oregon State women's basketball team earned a valuable road win Friday evening, as the Beavers took a 54-49 win over Colorado in Boulder.
"You have to give credit to Colorado – you can't blink against this team," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "I really liked our rebounding and our defense today, and I thought we got some great production off the bench. I saw a lot of good things tonight, and we made the plays down the stretch to win the game."
Senior Sydney Wiese led the Beavers with 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers and dishing out five assists. Fellow senior Kolbie Orum tallied 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds.
Junior Marie Gulich narrowly missed a double-double, going for eight points and nine rebounds. Redshirt-junior Breanna Brown tallied seven points and nine rebounds.
Oregon State held Colorado to 34.8 percent shooting in the game, and posted a 51-30 advantage in rebounds. The Beavers have now out-rebounded their opponents in 23-straight games.
Colorado got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 7-0 lead to begin the game, but the Beavers responded by scoring eight-straight points in less than a minute to take the lead.
Oregon State would use another 8-0 run later in the first quarter to end the period up 17-11.
The Beavers would continue to build on the advantage in the second frame, going in front by as many as 12 before heading to the intermission up 33-25. Wiese headed to the locker-room with 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting from 3-point range.
The two sides would trade baskets through much of the third quarter. Oregon State scored the final four points of the period to head to the closing frame up 44-35.
The Buffaloes cut into the edge early in the fourth quarter, closing the gap to five less than two minutes into the period. Colorado followed that up by getting within one with three minutes to play, but Gulich came up with a big basket to bring it back to three. Oregon State would not surrender the lead from there, taking the win by five.
The Beavers will head to Salt Lake City Sunday for a matchup with Utah. That game will tip off at 2 p.m. MT/1 p.m. PT, and will air live on Pac-12 Oregon and Mountain.
