February 15, 2017 | Women's Basketball
Fan vote is open now
CORVALLIS – Senior Sydney Wiese has been tabbed as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, the award's selection committee announced Wednesday.
One of the most prestigious awards in the nation, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The finalists were chosen by national media from a list of 30 candidates, which were selected in January.
The fan vote for the award in open immediately through March 20 at this link. The fan vote will be combined with the votes of head coaches and media to select the winner. Oregon State standout Ruth Hamblin made the Senior CLASS Award All-America team last season.
A speech communication major, Wiese is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree and an Academic All-District selection. The senior has launched her own web series in conjunction with Oregon State gymnast Megan Jimenez, and hopes to go into broadcasting at the conclusion of her playing career. She has also worked extensively in the community, donating her hair in a special Haircuts for Cancer ceremony last week, and participating in a Candlelighters for Cancer fishing trip over the summer.
Wiese, who has been named to the watch lists for the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy, Wade Trophy, Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and Lieberman Award, is the Pac-12's career record holder for 3-pointers. The senior is already in the top-seven in Oregon State history in career points, and set the program record for career assists on Sunday. Wiese leads the Beavers with 15.1 points per game, as is among the top three in the nation in 3-point percentage.
As a team, Oregon State is currently ranked No. 11 in the AP Poll, and is tied atop the Pac-12 standings with a league record of 12-2. The Beavers will hit the road this weekend to take on Colorado and Utah.
