Ellie Slama To Compete At Annika Invitational
February 14, 2017 | Women's Golf
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Ellie Slama, who signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Oregon State women's golf program for the 2017-18 season, will compete at the prestigious Annika Invitational this weekend.
Â
Headlined by several top-10 girls in the AJGA Rankings, the ninth annual Annika Invitational will be held this Friday through Monday at the Reunion Resort's Watson Course in Orlando, Fla.
Â
The 72-player invitational annually serves as the first girls-only event of the 2017 season. Since its inception in 2009, more than 200 participants have gone on to play NCAA Division I golf and several are enjoying success on the LPGA Tour.
Â
The Annika Invitational was the first junior golf event founded by Annika Sorenstam, the 10-time LPGA Tour major championship winner and World Golf Hall of Fame member, in the Annika Foundation's series of global events.
Â
"Just being able to play in a tournament as competitive and well known is a big deal to me," Slama said. "I've been practicing and working hard at my game and I'm really looking forward to seeing how I do and where I rank in this field."
Â
Slama attends South Salem High School and was the OSAA 6A Girls' Golf State Champion in 2016 when she was named the Girls' Prep Golfer of the Year by the Oregon Sports Awards and Mid-Valley Sports Awards. She's a two-time Greater Valley Conference champion and a three-time Statesman Journal Mid-Valley Golfer of the Year and All Mid Valley Team / All State Tournament Team.
Â
She was also named the Pacific Northwest Golf Association Girls' Junior Golfer of the Year and Oregon Golf Association Girls' Junior Golfer of the Year in 2015 and 2016.
Â
Slama carries a 3.86 cumulative GPA at South Salem High School and is a member of the National Honor Society and Honor Roll.
