Beavers Stay Perfect at Paradise Classic
February 10, 2017 | Softball
HONOLULU – The Oregon State softball team remains perfect in 2017, after defeating Hawaii 2-0 at the Paradise Classic Friday night. The Beavers start 3-0 for the third straight season.
Â
The Beavers started the game with a quick three-and-out on offense and took a few batters to get the defense on track. Hawaii loaded the bases with just one out in the first inning after a pair of walks, but the defense got off the field and smothered any threat of scoring.
Â
Oregon State's offense showed a moment of life in the second inning and that was all that was needed. Sammi Noland doubled to left field to give the Beavers its first base runner of the game. Two batters later, Kayleen Shafer sent one over the center field wall to give OSU a 2-0 advantage.
Â
Both teams struggled to get runners in scoring position the rest of the game, as neither team got a batter past second base. Hawaii left a runner on base in the last three innings, including tallying both of its hits.
Â
Nerissa Eason finished the game with a strikeout – one of four total in the game. The freshman allowed just two hits and walked three.
Â
Shelby Weeks, Natalie Hampton, Noland and Shafer all recorded a hit for the Beavers, while Shafer tallied two RBI off her home run.
The Beavers will continue playing at the Paradise Classic tomorrow morning, with rematches against Sacramento State and UAB.
