The duo own the top two single-game tackle totals in the Pac-12 in 2017
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State senior linebacker Manase Hungalu and freshman safety David Morris have been named All-Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention, it was announced on Tuesday.
Â
Hungalu's recognition completes a busy day for the Hawaiian native as he was named one of five finalists for the 2017 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year award. He finished 2017 with 97 tackles – ranking him fifth in the Pac-12 – to go along with two interceptions, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, four pass breakups and a touchdown.
Â
His 20 tackles against California rank as the most by a conference player this season, and are tied for fourth-most ever by an Oregon State player, and tied for fifth-most nationally in 2017. A sociology major from Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, he is due to graduate this month.
Â
Morris, meanwhile, picked up the honor after finishing with 75 tackles in 2017, tying him with Jalen Moore for second on the team. The Sherwood, Ore., native and business major tallied four tackles for loss, one interception and one pass breakup.
Â
Morris played in 11 games, starting seven, and his 17 tackles against Minnesota rank second for a single game in the Pac-12, behind only Hungalu's 20. The 17 are also third-most nationally by a freshman.
