Letrari and Anderson post sixth combined NCAA B Standard times at invite
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Closing the weekend in style, the Oregon State swimming program capped off a strong run at the 69th Husky Invitational with a handful of NCAA B Standard times at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center on Sunday.
"This year's meet had more depth and was faster than last year," said head coach Jennifer Buffin. "The team took every opportunity to race in the prelims, posting season- and personal-bests to qualify for the finals. With two top finishes and six NCAA B cuts, it was a solid meet for us as a program.
"We will now focus on finishing strong in the classroom and will prepare for winter training."
Sophomore Felicia Anderson (Portland, Ore.) and junior Arianna Letrari (Bolzano, Italy) ended the invite on top of their respective prelims to put the Beavers in third among the women's programs heading into the finals.
Anderson tallied her third NCAA B Standard in the 200 back with a time of 1:59.13 and the top spot in the prelims. She was just over a second behind her personal best of 1:58.07 originally set at the 2017 Pac-12 Championships.
The Portland native ended her day with a new PR in the 100 free behind a time of 51.71 and a 12th-place finish in the prelims. Anderson last set her 100 free personal best at the 68th Husky Invitational back in 2016.
Letrari notched her third-straight day with an NCAA B Standard off the top finish in the 200 fly prelims. Her time of 1:58.55 was more than a half-second better than her previous best set at the Pac-12 vs. USA Swimming College Challenge on October 21.
The Oregon State 400 free relay team added a third-place finish in the prelims with a time of 3:29.97 for a new season best, beating the time set at the dual against Stanford.
Freshman Callan Jackman (Dublin, Calif.) was the third individual Beaver swimmer to post a new personal best, setting a time of 53.41 in the 100 free prelims and missing the cut for the finals by less than a half-second.
Jackman's previous PR in the 100 free came in the 2017 CC Juanita Allington Memorial Senior in Fresno, Calif., on February 23, 2017.
Due to the upcoming finals week on campus, the OSU swimming program did not stay for the final races at the invite. The Beavers had 361 points as a team following the day three prelims.
