Bresser Advances to Semifinals at Midlands Championships

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Redshirt Junior Ronnie Bresser remains perfect at the 55th edition of the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships after a 3-0 start on day one at Sears Centre Arena, hosted by Northwestern University.
The 125-pounder advanced to the semifinals where he will match No. 10-seeded Spencer Lee, who is wrestling unattached for Iowa. The Klamath Falls native opened the day with consecutive falls, and advanced to the semifinals with a 12-7 decision over Purdue's Luke Welch, 12-7.
Redshirt senior Amarveer Dhesi also advanced to the quarterfinals before dropping a 9-2 decision to Conan Jennings of Northwestern. Dhesi won his first two matches by scores of 21-6 and 20-8.
Three other Oregon State wrestlers advanced to the second day of competition. Redshirt senior Jack Hathaway dropped a close first bout of the day, but rattled off four-straight victories to stay alive. Hathaway wrestles No. 6-seeded Yahya Thomas of Northwestern in round six of the consolation bracket.
Freshman 157-pounder Hunter Willits wrestles Andrew Crone of Wisconsin in his first bout tomorrow after a 3-1 day from the Pueblo, Colo. native. Dhesi is slated to battle Rutger's Matt Correntti to start day two.
Oregon State currently sits in 11th place with 31 points. Iowa is the leader after the first day with 91.
Action resumes on Saturday with Session III beginning at 10 a.m. PT, and the final session starting at 5:05 p.m. PT.
