Oregon State wraps up nonconference play with a win
CORVALLIS – The No. 17 ranked Oregon State women's basketball team clamped down defensively to hand UC Davis its second loss of the season Wednesday evening, 61-47 at Gill Coliseum.

"I thought tonight was awesome – it was the perfect game for us as we prepare for Pac-12 play," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "We knew we were going to have to make plays to win this game, and I thought we made plays all night. UC Davis was well prepared, and this game took everything we have. We battled, and I was proud of the way we executed. I'm thankful for this experience. Beaver Nation came out with a great crowd, and this was a great win."

The Beavers held the Aggies to 23.9 percent shooting in the contest, and limited the visitors to 17 second-half points, including six in the third quarter.

Senior Marie Gulich recorded her fourth double-double of the season, going for 12 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocks. Sophomore Mikayla Pivec finished with 14 points, nine rebound and three assists, while freshman Taya Corosdale put up 12 points in her second career start.

Sophomore Kat Tudor tallied six points and six rebounds, and junior Katie McWilliams pulled down eight rebounds.

Oregon State out-scored UC Davis 28-10 on points in the paint and 15-0 on second-chance points.

The teams traded baskets early on before Oregon State used a 6-0 run to go in front 11-7. UC Davis got back within one late in the opening period, before the Beavers took a 15-12 lead into the second frame.

The Aggies tied things up at 19 three minutes into the second quarter. The Beavers promptly retook the advantage, but were unable to extend the lead beyond six points at any point in the first half, taking a 34-30 edge into the intermission.

Oregon State methodically extended the lead to double-figures in the third quarter, going up 45-34 at the period's media break. The Beavers scored seven unanswered points to get the lead out to 14, holding UC Davis scoreless for a stretch of over four minutes.

OSU took a 50-36 lead into the closing frame, and would not let the Aggies within single-digits from there, taking the win by 14.

The Beavers will open Pac-12 play on Dec. 29, when Washington visits Gill Coliseum. That game is slated to tip off at 2 p.m.
