
Get to Know You: Nerissa Eason and Alyssa Pelegrin

Eason and Pelegrin are in their sophomore year of competition for OSU
For the weeks leading up to the regular season, fans will get a chance to learn about every member of the 2017-18 Oregon State softball team.
This week, we meet up with Nerissa Eason and Alyssa Pelegrin in their second season for Oregon State. Eason is a pitcher from Grass Valley, Calif., and Pelegrin is an infielder from Inglewood, Calif.
Why did you choose Oregon State?
Nerissa Eason: I loved the weather and how welcoming everyone was. I also loved how much it reminded me of back home.
Alyssa Pelegrin: I chose Oregon State because of the Academic opportunities and to play at the highest level in the Pac-12.
What do you enjoy about your major?
NE (Public Health): I like being able to learn about health issues that are going on in the world and how we are able to fix them or make them better.
AP (Communications): I'm majoring in Communications and enjoy the people I get to interact with and projects I will get to work on.
What do you like most about playing softball?
NE: I love how competitive it is and knowing that I have a team that has my back.
AP: The adrenaline. I love to compete.
What is your favorite thing about playing for Coach Berg?
NE: I love that she pushes us knowing what our goal is for us to succeed and she never gives up.
AP: I like the intensity she brings every day, how she pushes us to reach our full potential and how much she believes in us.
What does your uniform number mean to you?
NE (50): My Dad has a car called the 50 and I've always loved the car and I've been number 50 ever since I can remember.
AP (11): I have been number 1 since I started playing the sport so I decided to get doubles when I got here. Also because my dad wore number 11 when he played baseball.
What are the team goals for this season?
NE: To finish top three in Pac-12.
AP: Finish in the top three in Pac-12 and go far in post season (OKC!!).
What is your personal goal for the season?
NE: To help lead the team in achieving our goal in whatever way possible.
AP: My personal goal for this season is to earn a starting spot and contribute to this team in whatever way I can.
What athlete did you idolize growing up and why?
NE: (No answer)
AP: I idolized so many athletes growing up but my favorite was Serena Williams. She overcame so much adversity and made it out. She's a strong female athlete and is proud of it.
What age did you know you wanted to play softball in college and what made you realize that?
NE: Probably my 8th grade year after watching all the games on TV and seeing how excited everyone was. I decided I wanted to be part of that.
AP: I've always had playing collegiate softball in the back of my mind since I started playing at 5. I loved the sport so much that I knew I wanted to continue.
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
NE: Depending on my mood is what would be playing, there isn't just one person or song I listen to all the time.
AP: YG, Kendrick Lamar, 50 cent, Lil Kim or any 90's rap. Rap in general. I like L.A. based music because it's what I grew up with and it makes me feel at home.
Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
NE: I always have to have my nails painted before I play.
AP: I listen to music to get me pumped up and say a prayer.
What current show could you see yourself being a part of?
NE: (No answer)
AP: Bad Girls Club.
What is the best thing about living in Corvallis?
NE: I like how it's a small town and I can get anywhere in a short period of time
AP: The beautiful scenery and friendly community.
What is your biggest phobia?
NE: Spiders.
AP: Snakes and sharks.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
NE: Listening to music and hanging out with friends.
AP:Â I enjoy spending time with family, friends and my pit bulls. I also enjoy going to the beach, movies and on long drives (especially in Oregon).
What is your favorite place on campus to hang out?
