Reno Tournament of Champions Awaits Oregon State Wrestling

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State wrestling will get on the mat once more before the holidays at the 2017 edition of the Reno Tournament of Champions this Sunday, Dec. 17. The tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. with the placing matches to begin at 6 p.m.

Ronnie Bresser was champion at 125-pounds at the 2016 Reno Tournament of Champions, competing unattached for the Beavers. In the finals, Bresser took a 10-2 major decision over Oklahoma State's Eli Hale to earn his championship.
Cody Crawford captured the heavyweight crown last year, but will not be wrestling this weekend.

Two Beavers find themselves individually ranked by InterMat in the most recent rankings released Dec. 12. Redshirt junior 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser is No. 9; redshirt junior 197-pounder Corey Griego sits at No. 11. Redshirt senior Amarveer Dhesi dropped out of the heavyweight rankings two weeks ago, but was the fifth-ranked heavyweight up to that point.
Griego has a tournament victory under his belt this season as the Apple Valley, Calif. native won the Navy Classic on Nov. 18. Competing unattached, redshirt junior Ronnie Bresser and freshman Grant Willits each walked away with first place finishes at the Mike Clock Open on Nov. 12.
The Beavers will get some experience back on the mat this weekend as two NCAA qualifiers officially back in the lineup for Oregon State. Heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi and 125-pounder Bresser. Both wrestlers redshirted last season.

The Beavers finish out the calendar year at the Midlands Invitational on Dec. 29-30.
Oregon State begins Pacific-12 Conference action on the road against Arizona State on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Sun Devils were the 2017 Pac-12 Wrestling Champions.
This year's Pac-12 Championships are hosted by the Beavers on Feb. 25 in Gill Coliseum. The NCAA Championships are March 15-17 in Cleveland, Ohio.
