Marshall Named as Senior CLASS Award Finalist
November 09, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Oregon State senior outside hitter Mary-Kate Marshall has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, the award's committee announced Thursday. To be eligible for the award, one of the most prestigious awards in the nation, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Â
The fan vote for the award opens immediately and continues through December 4. The fan vote will be combined with the votes of media and Division I head coaches to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award recipient will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December.
Â
Marshall, a kinesiology major with an option in pre-therapy and allied health, is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2016. In addition, she is one of her team's leaders in community relations, devoting time, along with her teammates to several local organizations.
Â
Marshall currently leads the Beavers and the Pac-12 Conference with 4.60 kills per set in 2017. She ranks second in Oregon State history with 1,809 career kills. With 992 digs, she is on the verge of becoming the sixth player in OSU history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
Â
She has helped lead the Beavers to numerous milestones this season, including winning five consecutive conference matches for the first time since 1990, the first win over Washington since 2001 and the first weekend sweep of Arizona and Arizona State since 1996.
Â
As a team, Oregon State is 17-9 overall and 7-7 in Pac-12 play. The Beavers are on the road this week playing at Arizona tonight and at Arizona State on Saturday. Tonight's match with the Wildcats will be televised on Pac-12 Oregon and Pac-12 Arizona.
