PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Kyosuke Hara fired an even-par 71 to lead the Oregon State men's golf team in the opening round of the Saint Mary's Invitational on Monday.

Hara, a sophomore from Honolulu, Hawai'i, dropped in five birdies at the par-71, 7,002-yard Poppy Hills Golf Course to shoot a 71 and sit in a tie for 16th place. His best career finish is a tie for sixth place at last year's Alister MacKenzie Invitational.

"Kyosuke played solidly," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "It was really good to see him bounce back after a couple of tough holes. He's been working hard on his mental game and commitment to each shot, and I think it definitely paid off today."

As a team, the Beavers are in 13th place in the 18-team field with a 14-over 298

San Francisco holds the team lead by two strokes over Stanford and Colorado State with a 3-under 281. Justin Suh of USC, Patrick Fishburn of BYU, Brad Reeves of Arizona and Parathakorn Suyasri of Colorado State are all tied for the individual lead with a 4-under 67.

The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.

Freshman Spencer Tibbits continued his strong fall by shooting a 1-over 72 to put him in a tie for 26th place. Junior Trevor Yu (6-over 77) and sophomore Shawn Lu (7-over 78) were the Beavers' final two scores in the first round.
