Beavers Set to Race at Head of the Lake
November 03, 2017 | Men's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – This Sunday the Oregon State men's rowing team heads to Seattle, Wash. to compete in the 38th Head of the Lake Regatta. The regatta is hosted by Lake Washington Rowing Club and the University of Washington.
"The guys are rowing really well right now," said head coach Gabe Winkler. "I know they are excited for this race. The weather looks to be very typical for northwest late fall, we couldn't ask for anything better for the guys to perform in."
The Beavers are taking six boats in total; three eights, Varsity, Junior Varsity and Third Varsity; and three Varsity fours.
Last season the Oregon State Varsity 8 recorded a third-place finish in the Men's Collegiate Open 8 and the Beavers' Junior Varsity 8 outraced Stanford to earn a silver finish.
COURSE: The three-mile course starts in Lake Union, northeast of Gasworks Park, crosses Portage Bay, runs through the Montlake Cut and finishes in Union Bay of Lake Washington.
RACE TIMES: The Men's Collegiate/Open 8+ begins at 8 a.m., followed by the Men's Collegiate JV 8+ at 8:03 a.m. and the Men's Collegiate 3V 8+ at 8:15 a.m. The Champ Men's 4+ begins at 9:52 a.m.
VIEWING: The race can be viewed from the shore along most of its length. The best viewing spots are at the start near the College Club boathouse, Pocock Rowing Center, and along the Montlake Cut, on the Montlake Bridge and at Ivar's on North Lake Union. Admission is free for the event.
RESULTS: Results can be found at RegattaCentral.org following the completion of the race.
