Senior center made the Lisa Leslie Award Watch List earlier this year
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State center Marie Gulich has been named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday. The list highlights the top 50 candidates for the award, which recognizes the national player of the year.
Gulich is off to a strong start this season, leading the team with 15.2 points per game on 59.3 percent shooting from the floor. The senior is also averaging 8.0 rebounds per contest, and is third in the nation in blocks with 4.4 per game. Gulich has scored at least 15 points in four of Oregon State's five games this season, and has blocked at least three shots in every contest.
An All-Pac-12 First Team selection last season, Gulich was named to the inaugural Lisa Leslie Award Watch List earlier this year, as she was recognized as one of the nation's top centers. The 6-foot-5 German is working her way up the OSU record book for career blocks, currently sitting eighth with 120. Gulich has played in all 110 of Oregon State's games since joining the program in the 2014-15 season. During her time with the team, the center has helped the Beavers win three Pac-12 titles, make a pair of Sweet 16s, and notched the program's first ever Final Four appearance.
The Naismith Trophy committee will release it's Midseason 30 on Feb. 12.
The Beavers will head to Hawaii this week to host the second annual Maui Jim Maui Classic. Oregon State's first game of the tournament will be Friday at 9 p.m. PT vs. Nevada.
