Beavers Edged on Senior Night

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Mary-Kate Marshall recorded 19 kills in the final home match of her career, but the Oregon State volleyball team came up short falling to No. 24 Oregon in five sets Friday night at Gill Coliseum.

The match was is part of the Civil War series, brought to you by Pacific Source Health Plans, Spirit Mountain Casino, Safeway-Albertsons and your local Toyota dealers. Set scores were 22-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 9-15.

The Oregon State volleyball program honored three student-athletes participating in their final home match including Marshall, McKenna Hollingsworth and Lanesha Reagan. Marshall tallied 19 kills on 55 attacks and registered 15 digs, to record her 12th double-double of the season, and a block. Hollingsworth and Reagan have missed the vast majority of the season due to injury.

The five-set match was played closely throughout the evening. OSU led the first set at 21-19 until Oregon was able to string together five point in a row to secure the set 25-22.

Oregon State came back in the second set taking a commanding 21-9 lead behind a strong defense by the Beavers. OSU posted seven blocks in the second set alone and Marshall registered five kills in the stanza holding on to take the set 25-16.

With the match even at intermission, the Ducks took an early lead in the third at 8-7 extending it to 16-10. The Beavers battled to stay within striking distance as Kory Cheshire tallied four kills and a pair of blocks and Marshall added six kills in the period. Oregon won the set 25-21.

Needing to win the fourth set to stay alive in the match, Oregon State rose to the occasion taking an early lead 9-6. However, Oregon battled back to take the lead at 13-12 and again at 14-13. However, the Beavers received a pair of kills each from Marshall and Maddie Goings and three blocks by Maddy Gravley to extend the match with a Set 4 win, 25-21.

The Beavers led the fifth set 3-1 but couldn't hold on dropping the set 15-9.

Grace Massey led five Beavers in double-digits with 30 digs. She is the first OSU player with 30 digs since Darby Reeder in 2014. Gravley recorded a team-high and career-best nine blocks.
