Beavers Soar Past Eagles In First Road Game

Kat Tudor goes for 23 points and 11 rebounds in win
DURHAM, N.C. – The Oregon State women's basketball team soared past the North Carolina Central Eagles Wednesday afternoon, as the Beavers took a 97-44 win in their first road game of the season.

"I thought we approached this game the right way," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "We've had a couple great days of practice, and playing your first road game is a new experience. We did a nice job of controlling tempo today, and I thought that was the biggest key for us. I was really proud of the effort."

Sophomore Kat Tudor recorded her first career double-double, setting career highs in both points and rebounds with 23 and 11, respectively. Junior Joanna Grymek went 7-for-7 from the floor to finish with 16 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Marie Gulich tallied 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting. The senior also recorded four blocks, moving her into a tie for eighth on Oregon State's career rejections list. Taylor Kalmer scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds.

Oregon State has had four players in double-figures in all four games this season. The Beavers shot 60.3 percent from the floor in the contest and 50 percent from 3-point range. OSU held the Eagles to 21.9 percent shooting in the game.

The Beavers scored the first nine points of the game, opening the contest with a 3-pointer from Pivec, followed by a pair of triples from Tudor. Oregon State went ahead 15-8 at the game's first media break, before running off eight unanswered points on its way to a 27-11 lead headed into the second frame.

Oregon State broke the game open in the second quarter, holding the Eagles without a bucket for the final 7:27 of the period to outscore NCCU 24-6 in the frame. OSU took a 51-17 advantage into the intermission.

As a team, the Beavers shot 57.6 percent from the floor in the first half, compared to 15.2 percent for the Eagles.

Oregon State proceeded to out-score NCCU 28-19 in the third quarter and 18-8 in the fourth quarter to take the win by 53.

The Beavers will remain in Durham for a Saturday matchup with No. 16 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium. That game will tip off at 12 p.m. PT and will be streamed live via ACC Network Extra.
