
Get to Know You: Camryn Ybarra and Chance Burden

Ybarra and Burden are in their first year for Oregon State softball
For the weeks leading up to the regular season, fans will get a chance to learn about every member of the 2017-18 Oregon State softball team.
This week, we meet up with Camryn Ybarra and Chance Burden in their first year of competition for Oregon State. Ybarra is a native of Mission Veijo, Calif., and is an infielder. Burden is a native of Huntington Beach, Calif., and is a outfielder.
Why did you choose Oregon State?
Camryn Ybarra: I chose Oregon State because of the supportive atmosphere, the coaches and to play Pac-12 softball.
Chance Burden: I loved the college town and the coaching staff.
What do you enjoy about your major?
CY (HDFS): I enjoy learning about families and how I will be able to teach children all subjects and help them develop in their youth.
CB: I am currently undecided.
What do you like most about playing softball?
CY: I love the competitiveness and how stressful it gets to win every game. I also love fighting every inning for my teammates.
CB: I like the challenge and speed of the game.
What is your favorite thing about playing for Coach Berg?
CY: How dedicated she is to making us better to not only win in softball, but to win in life. I love how intense she is and how much love she has for the game.
CB: I love the energy she brings every day and her high expectations for us.
What does your uniform number mean to you?
CY (33): It means that I have a piece of my family with me at all times, especially my dad who wore the same number when he played baseball.
CB (18): My brothers and sister also wear the same number so it is a family number.
What are the team goals for this season?
CY: The team goals would be to make it to Oklahoma City and to win a national championship. Also, to achieve greatness and never settle.
CB: To finish top there in the Pac-12.
What is your personal goal for the season?
CY: My personal goal for the season would be to score my teammates whenever they get on base.
CB: My goal is to get better every day and to be a great teammate.
What athlete did you idolize growing up and why?
CY: I idolized Toni Mascarenas because she taught me to never fear anything when you play and to leave everything on the field with no regrets. She played hard when she played softball and never let up.
CB: I idolized Mike Trout because he plays relaxed and with confidence.
What age did you know you wanted to play softball in college and what made you realize that?
CY: I wanted to player ever since I started travel ball in 10u because I saw college softball change many lives and impact so many people that I wanted to be somebody and play for a Pac-12 school.
CB: After my first time watching college softball on TV, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
CY: I would be listening to country singers, most likely Luke Bryan, Luke Combs and Dustin Lynch.
CB: Anything country.
Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
CY: I don't have any pregame rituals or traditions but I always have cornrows in my hair.
CB: I put my uniform on in a specific order.
What current show could you see yourself being a part of?
CY: I could see myself being a part of Fear Fact because I like doing strange things and the thrill of it.
CB: Friends.
What is the best thing about living in Corvallis?
CY: The best thing is the weather and views. I always take pictures of how pretty the city always looks and the rain is my favorite type of weather.
CB: It is the best college town in the Pac-12 and that everyone is very welcoming and friendly.
What is your biggest phobia?
CY: Being stuck in an elevator.
CB: Crickets.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
CY: I enjoy shopping, hikes and dancing.
CB: Getting coffee or hanging out with my roommates.
What is your favorite place on campus to hang out?
CY: My favorite place to hang out is my dorm because I love my roommates and hanging out with friends.
CB: My cozy little dorm or Dutch Brothers.
