Beavers Out-Shoot Buffs, Fall 1-0
October 26, 2017 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's soccer team out-shot Colorado 13-9 Thursday afternoon, but the Buffaloes took a 1-0 win at Lorenz Field.
"I thought we played a good game of soccer," said Oregon State head coach Linus Rhode. "We're creating a lot of chances, we're just having a tough time finding the back of the net right now. Our attacking players are working extremely hard, it's just that last little bit of composure that we're working on. You cannot fault the team's effort today, it's just that little bit of composure."
Sophomore Taylor Lemmond led the Beavers with five shots in the game. Goalkeeper Bella Geist made two saves to bring her career total to 394.
Lemmond created three shots within the first three minutes of the contest, including a strike from 15 yards out that drifted just outside the post. Emma Jones followed that up by forcing a save on a counter-attack just minutes later, and then had an attempt blocked in the 12th minute.
Natalie Higgins took a shot from the top of the box in the 32nd minute, but her effort curved wide. The Beavers out-shot the Buffaloes 9-2 in the first 45 minutes, but the teams entered the intermission level at zero.
Colorado took the lead seven minutes into the second half, as the Buffaloes converted on their third shot of the match.
Lemmond took aim five minutes later from 10 yards out, but her effort was blocked. Higgins followed that up with a shot from distance, but it was just off target.
Jones nearly got the Beavers on the board with a pair of shots in the 78th minute, but her attempts were blocked and saved, respectively. Kayla Latham added another shot in the 82nd, but it was off frame.
Oregon State will remain at home on Sunday, as the Beavers take on Utah at 11 a.m. That match will air on Pac-12 Mountain.
