Tibbits Leads Beavers In First Round At Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. – Spencer Tibbits continued his strong play to lead the Oregon State men's golf team in the opening round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Thursday.

Tibbits, a freshman from Vancouver, Wash., fired a 1-under 71 to put him in a tie for 29th place. He posted top-10 finishes in the first two events of the season and has now shot in red figures in six of his seven collegiate rounds.

As a team, the Beavers are tied for 14th place in the 20-team field after shooting a 2-over 290 at the par-72, 7,082-yard Reserve at Spanos Park.

The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins Friday morning and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.

Sophomores Shawn Lu and Kyosuke Hara both shot a 1-under 35 coming in that sparked a late Oregon State charge. Lu finished the day with an even-par 72 and Hara posted a 1-over 73.

Senior Jonas Liebich eagled the par-5, 535-yard 16th hole to finish with a 2-over 74 and junior Trevor Yu dropped in a team high-tying three birdies that helped him open with a 4-over 76.

Santa Clara holds the clubhouse lead with a 9-under 279 and Filip Lundell of Grand Canyon is the individual leader with a 7-under 65.
