
Beavers Fall to No. 16 Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Oregon State women's soccer team recorded eight shots, but was unable to find the net in a 1-0 defeat to No. 16 California Thursday afternoon in Berkeley, Calif.
Natalie Higgins led the Beavers with four shots in the match, followed by Emma Jones with two.
Bella Geist made eight saves in the contest to pass Tawni Matrineau (Utah) for fourth on the Pac-12 career saves list. Geist now has 380 career stops, placing her five behind Lindsey Jorgenson for third.
Higgins took the first shot of the game for the Beavers, forcing a save in the 11th minute. The senior followed that up with another shot in the 25th, but the effort was blocked. Kayla Latham took aim just two minutes later, but the Cal goalkeeper made the save.
California went in front in the 35th minutes on a header goal off a set piece to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Higgins tallied a shot in the 71st minute, but it drifted wide. Jones forced a save in the 80th minute, before Ashleigh Fonsen forced another moments later as the Beavers pushed for an equalizer. Jones took aim in the closing minutes, but the effort was stopped by the Cal goalkeeper and the Golden Bears took the win by a goal.
Oregon State will play its final road game of the season on Sunday, when it takes on No. 1/1 Stanford in a match that will be carried live on Pac-12 Networks.
