CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior 149-pounder Joey Delgado is the lone Oregon State wrestler to be ranked by InterMat, The Open Mat and the Amateur Wrestling News this week.
Delgado (13-6) is ranked No. 13 by Amateur Wrestling News, No. 14 by The Open Mat and No. 18 by InterMat. He shut out Tommy Pawelski of Stanford 5-0 on Monday night to help the Beavers (3-6) upset then-No. 21 Stanford 18-15 at Gill Coliseum.
Junior 197-pounder Corey Griego (17-8) is ranked No. 17 by The Open Mat and No. 20 by the Amateur Wrestling News. Griego defeated Josh Marchok 9-5 on Monday night to tie the match with one bout remaining.
Junior heavyweight Cody Crawford (17-5), who defeated No. 7-ranked Nathan Butler of Stanford 3-1 in sudden victory in the decisive match on Monday night, is ranked 17th by Amateur Wrestling News.
The Beavers were not ranked in the Top 25 in the USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association's poll, which was also released on Tuesday.
Oklahoma State was ranked No. 1 by USA Today/NWCA, followed by Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State and Virginia Tech. Future OSU opponents in the rankings were Oklahoma (15) and Arizona State (21).
Also, junior heavyweight David Henry took second place, freshman141-pounder Connor Noonan took third place and freshman 165-pounder Drake McKee took fourth at the California Collegiate Open tournament at San Francisco State.
Henry won two matches by pin before losing in the finals by injury default. Noonan lost his first-round match, and then had four pins in a row to take third place. McKee went 2-2.
The Beavers resume Pac-12 action against Boise State at 6 p.m. Friday in the annual Border War at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, and against Arizona State at 1 p.m. Sunday at Gill Coliseum. Both duals will be televised by the Pac-12 Network.
OSU is the five-time defending Pac-12 champions. This year's Pac-12 Championships are Feb. 26, at Stanford. The NCAA Championships are March 16-18 at St. Louis.
