Thompson Jr. Leads Beavers At Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah –Stephen Thompson Jr. scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Oregon State men's basketball team in an 86-78 loss to Utah on Saturday at the Huntsman Center.

The Beavers trailed 75-47 with 8:05 to play but mounted a furious rally, outscoring the Utes 23-3 to cut the deficit to 78-70. They got as close as 84-78 before Utah made two late free throws for the final margin.

Thompson Jr. scored 22 of his 30 points in the second half. He went 8-for-18 from the field, including 3-for-8 from deep, and 11-for-13 from the free throw line to post a career high in points for the second straight game.

JaQuori McLaughlin had a solid all-around game for the Beavers, scoring 22 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. He added six assists, four rebounds and a career-high four steals.

Oregon State (4-18, 0-9 Pac-12) shot 50.0 percent (26-for-52) from the field 85.0 percent (17-for-20) from the free throw line.

Utah (15-6, 6-3) was 58.2 percent (32-for-55) from the field.

Drew Eubanks finished with eight points and seven rebounds. He also blocked two shots and now has at least one in 17 consecutive games, just three short of the school record held by Nick DeWitz.

Gligorije Rakocevic added eight points and six rebounds, and Tanner Sanders tied a career high with two assists in a career-best 21 minutes.
