Hallock takes fourth place in pentathlon

SEATTLE – The Oregon State track & field team opened the 2017 indoor season on Friday at the Washington Invitational at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
Kara Hallock placed fourth in the pentathlon with 3,652 points. She was the top collegiate placer; the three women who finished ahead of her compete for the Santa Barbara Track Club.
The Beavers had two all-time top-10 performances in the 200 meters and two in the weight throw.
Kerissa D'Arpino finished ninth in 24.80, the No. 2-fastest time; Devin Collins was 31st in 25.61, the sixth-fastest time. School record-holder Venessa D'Arpino (24.70) placed 12th in 24.86. The D'Arpinos will run the 60 meters on Saturday; Collins will run the 60-meter hurdles.
Gillette Field cleared 11-7 and placed seventh in her flight in the pole vault. Helen Ann Haun will compete in Flight 2 on Saturday.
Rachel Picknell took 25th in the weight throw at 47-3.75. Freshman Lindsay McShane was 34th (45-6.50) and freshman Sydney Guthrie-Baker was 43rd (42-8.25); their marks were the third- and fourth-best in school history. The freshmen will also compete in the shot put on Saturday.
Competition concludes Saturday. The Beavers are idle next weekend and will resume competition at the Husky Classic, set for Feb. 10-11 at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
