The Beavers are the highest ranked team from the Pac-12
CORVALLIS, Ore. – There's been a trend for the Oregon State baseball team with a little more than three weeks remaining before the start of the 2017 season.
The trend: top 10 preseason rankings. On Thursday, the fifth preseason ranking was released and the USA Today Coaches Poll has the Beavers at seventh. That joins previous top 10 rankings by Collegiate Baseball (fifth), Perfect Game (seventh), D1Baseball.com (eighth) and Baseball America (ninth).
Oregon State received 561 points from a panel of 31 head coaches from across the country. That trails No. 1 TCU, and No. 2 Florida, then LSU, South Carolina, Florida State and Vanderbilt. The Beavers are 18 points shy of No. 6 Vanderbilt and 38 ahead of eighth-ranked Louisville.
Teams received 25 points for a first-place vote, 24 for second place and so on.
Like the previous four rankings, the Beavers are also the highest ranked club from the Pac-12 Conference. Arizona is ranked 15th, with Stanford at No. 21.
Oregon State opens the 2017 season Feb. 17 in Surprise, Ariz., when taking on Duke to start the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic.
