CORVALLIS, Ore. – Junior 149-pounder Joey Delgado is the lone Oregon State wrestler to be ranked by InterMat, The Open Mat and the Amateur Wrestling News this week.
Delgado (12-6) is ranked No. 13 by The Open Mat and Amateur Wrestling News, and No. 18 by InterMat. He pinned at Northern Colorado on Jan. 13 in his lone match this past weekend.
Junior 197-pounder Corey Griego (16-8) is ranked No. 15 by The Open Mat and No. 18 by InterMat. He is no longer ranked by the Amateur Wrestling News.
Junior heavyweight Cody Crawford (16-5) is ranked 17th by The Open Mat.
The Beavers were not ranked in the Top 25 in the USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association's poll, which was also released on Tuesday. Oklahoma State was ranked No. 1 by USA Today/NWCA, followed by Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State and Virginia Tech. Future OSU opponents in the rankings were Oklahoma (14), Stanford (20) and Arizona State (21).
Also, junior heavyweight David Henry took first place on Sunday at the Clackamas Open tournament at Clackamas Community College. He went 3-0 overall and defeated Sean Molle of Simon Fraser 11-2 in the championship bout.
It was Henry's second straight tournament win. He also took first place at the Boxer Open at Pacific University in Forest Grove on Jan. 15.
Redshirt freshmen Alex Rich (141) and Collbran Meeker (165) each placed third. Rich went 4-1 and defeated Justin Acuff of Southern Oregon 3-2 in the third-place match. Meeker went 5-1 and decisioned Cole Evans of Eastern Oregon 9-8 in the third-place match.
OSU signees Kurt Mode (141) and Colt Doyle (174) of Clackamas CC won their weight classes. They will join the program for the 2017-18 season.
The Beavers start Pacific-12 Conference action against No. 21 Stanford on Monday in a 7 p.m. dual at Gill Coliseum that will be televised by the Pac-12 Network. They are five-time defending Pac-12 champions.
This year's Pac-12 Championships are Feb. 26, at Stanford. The NCAA Championships are March 16-18 at St. Louis.
