Voiland Promoted to Associate Head Coach
January 19, 2017 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS, Ore. — Oregon State women's soccer head coach Linus Rhode has announced the promotion of assistant coach Michelle Voiland to associate head coach on Thursday. With her title change, Voiland will take on more of a leadership role in overseeing certain aspects of the program.
Â
"I am very happy and excited for Michelle," head coach Linus Rhode said. "She deserves and has earned this title. We have worked together since I became head coach and I have full faith in her abilities in all facets of the program."
Â
Voiland finished her ninth season with the Oregon State women's soccer program in 2016 and primarily works with the Beaver goalkeepers, but also works with the entire team when needed.
Â
Since joining the department with Rhode in 2008, Oregon State's goalkeepers have recorded the best goals-allowed average in program history. In each of her first four seasons, the Beavers improved their goals-against average leading up to a school record 0.56 mark—13th best in the nation at the time—in 2010. She has also been an integral part of Oregon State's postseason appearances.
Â
During her tenure at Oregon State, Voiland has coached some of the best goalkeepers for the Beavers, including Oregon State's shutouts leader and most decorated goalkeeper, Colleen Boyd. Boyd was a four-year letterwinner from 2008-2011 and holds Oregon State's solo shutout recorded with 27 clean sheets. Boyd was named to numerous postseason accolades like NSCAA All-American Third Team, NSCAA All-Pacific Region First Team and NSCAA National Player of the Week, to name a few.
Â
Most recently, Voiland has had her hand in shaping current goalkeeper, Bella Geist, who ranks third all-time at Oregon State in saves with 297 and has tallied 12 shutouts in her career. Geist also ranks fourth all-time in solo shutouts and set freshman and junior records for number saves in those seasons.
Â
At Oregon State, Voiland has influenced a total of three Pac-12 All-Academic Team members, two All-Pac-12 and Player of the Week recipients and coached goalkeepers to 58 shutouts. Off of Oregon State's campus, Voiland is also heavily involved with the Oregon Olympic Development program.
Â
Oregon State finished the 2016 season 8-10-2 overall and 3-8 in the Pac-12, including winning the Civil War game at Oregon.
