Oregon State is the highest ranked of three Pac-12 teams
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Make that three top-10 preseason rankings for the Oregon State baseball team.
On Tuesday, it was D1Baseball.com's turn to place the Beavers in the top 10. Oregon State, according to D1, will open the season ranked eighth nationally, just shy of No. 7 Vanderbilt. It comes on the heels of two other top 10 rankings – No. 5 by Collegiate Baseball and seventh by Perfect Game.
Oregon State is the highest ranked Pac-12 Conference club in D1Baseball.com's top 10, and the only team west of Texas. TCU is No. 1, followed by Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, LSU and then North Carolina State.
Stanford is the next Pac-12 school at No. 18, followed by 19th-ranked Arizona.
Oregon State is slated to return seven of its nine position starters from last season, and two starting pitchers – Bryce Fehmel and Luke Heimlich – from the weekend rotation that shut out UCLA over the three-game series. It was the first time in school history the Beavers had shut out the same team three consecutive games.
Fehmel, Nick Madrigal and KJ Harrison have all been named preseason All-Americans by either Collegiate Baseball or Perfect Game.
Oregon State opens the 2017 season Feb. 17 in Surprise, Ariz., when taking on Duke to open the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic.
