Get to know: Alyssa Pelegrin

Over the next several weeks leading up to the Oregon State softball season opener, we will feature a new member of the softball team. Alyssa Pelegrin is a freshman infielder from Inglewood, California and is undecided on her major.

Why did you choose Oregon State?
I chose OSU because I fell in love with Corvallis and the beautiful campus. I was honored to be able to play for Coach Berg and play in the PAC12.
What do you enjoy about your major?
I am undecided at the moment but I am leaning towards Marketing and Communications because it suits my personality. It would be something I would enjoy doing.
What do you like most about playing softball?
The adrenaline. I love to compete.
What is your favorite thing about playing for coach Berg?
I love Coach Berg's coaching style. She is so passionate and competitive but can still crack a joke. She is also extremely humble even though she is the best of the best.
What does your uniform number mean to you?
My actual number is #1 but I will be wearing #11 this year. Since I couldn't get my original number I decided I wanted double ones.
What are the team goals for this season?
We have a very talented team this year. A goal for us would be to remain consistent and win at all costs.
What is your personal goal for the season?
I want to come out and contribute to this team regardless of my age.
What athlete did you idolize growing up and why?
Ronda Rousey and Serena Williams. Serena Williams didn't let where she came from stop her from reaching her goals and Ronda Rousey overcame adversity despite all the negativity thrown her way. She taught female athletes that strong is beautiful. I idolized these athletes because I saw a lot of myself in the both of them.
What age did you know you wanted to play softball in college and what made you realize that?
I come from a baseball/softball family. I saw my cousins continue their careers at great universities and I wanted to do the same. It's been a goal of mine to play college ball since I started playing at 5 years old. I didn't realize my dreams could be turned into a reality until I was 9. I realized my dreams of playing in the Pac - 12 could be reached. My love for the game made me realize I wanted to play this sport as long as I possibly could.
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
Any yg song because his music is very LA based and it makes me feel like I'm home.
Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
I listen to music to pump me up.
What reality show could you see yourself being a part of?
Mob Wives.
What is the best thing about living in Corvallis?
It's a huge college town and very family based.
What is your biggest phobia?
Snakes and tests
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, being with my pit bulls, listening to music, watching movies and any outdoor activity
What is your favorite place on campus to hang out?
Performance Table because I love food.
