Arbogast, Striar, Jones and Tchilao named Honorable Mention
CORVALLIS – Oregon State men's soccer players Timmy Mueller and Nathan Braaten have been named to the Pac-12 Academic First Team, the conference office announced Wednesday. The duo is joined by Academic Honorable Mentions Matt Arbogast, Jordan Jones, Zach Striar and Don Tchilao.
Mueller, a junior business major with a 3.80 GPA, also made the Pac-12 All-Academic Team last season, and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team the last two seasons. The forward is one of the most prolific scorers in Oregon State history, currently sitting at 50 career points on 22 goals and six assists. Mueller has made the All-Pac-12 Team the last three seasons, and has two career hat-tricks.
Braaten, a sophomore from Highlands Ranch, Colo., makes the Pac-12 All-Academic Team for the first time with a perfect 4.0 GPA, the highest of any eligible player in the conference. The pre-business major also joined Mueller on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team earlier this season. Braaten's year was highlighted by his first career goal, which came against California on Oct. 6. He appeared in 16 matches this season, playing a total of 449 minutes.
Arbogast earned Honorable Mention honors for the second-straight season. The finance major scored his only goal of the season against San Diego State on Nov. 3, the second goal of his collegiate career. Jones leads all Oregon State players with 23 career goals. He is majoring in sociology, and was featured on SportsCenter's Top-10 Plays for his game-winning goal vs. San Diego State.
Striar started all 14 games he played in 2016. The senior digital communication arts major was a defensive stalwart for the Beavers throughout his career. Tchilao made 17 starts in 2016, scoring three goals, including the overtime winner vs. Ohio State. The sophomore is majoring in University Exploratory Studies.
