Beavers Tame Lions 73-40 in Final Nonconference Game

Brown leads Oregon State with 14 points
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 15/22 Oregon State women's basketball team notched a 73-40 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, as the Beavers hosted their final tune-up of the nonconference schedule Tuesday evening at Gill Coliseum.
"We had a great crowd here tonight, and I thought they brought great energy," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "I loved the effort tonight. Coming in we talked about needing to do well on the boards, and we did that. I liked our aggressiveness right from the tip, and I think this was a good win for us."
Oregon State finishes nonconference play with a 11-1 record, and will enter Pac-12 play on an eight-game winning streak.
Redshirt-junior Breanna Brown led all scorers with a career-high 14 points. The center went 6-for-10 from the floor in her first ever start at Gill Coliseum, and also tallied six rebounds and two blocks. Senior Sydney Wiese had yet another strong performance, finishing with 11 points, six assists and four rebounds. The communication major hit a pair of 3-pointers, to become the first player in Pac-12 history with 300 career longballs.
Senior Gabriella Hanson finished in double-figures for the second time this season, ending the evening with 10 points, two assists and two steals. Freshman Mikayla Pivec and sophomore Katie McWilliams recorded seven points apiece.
The Beavers held the Lady Lions to 32.7 percent shooting from the floor (17-for-52), and held a 53-25 advantage on the glass. OSU turned the ball over just seven times in the game, and provided assists on 17 of its 23 made field goals. Redshirt-freshman Tarea Green recorded her first career basket in the game, as all 12 Oregon State players saw the floor.
Oregon State exploded out to an early lead, jumping in front 11-2 to start the game. Brown would hit four of her five first-quarter shots, scoring nine points as the Beavers ended the period ahead 17-10. Arkansas-Pine Bluff clawed back to get within three in the opening stages of the second quarter, but the Beavers would surge out to a double-digit advantage late in the half. Oregon State took a 38-23 lead into the intermission.
Brown finished the first half with 11 points, as the Beavers went 14-for-35 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The Beavers wasted no time extending their lead in the second half, stretching the margin to 20 less than three minutes into the third period. Oregon State would cruise from there, taking the win by 33.
Oregon State will open Pac-12 play on Friday, when it hosts Washington State in a 4 p.m. tip.
