LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Senior Sydney Wiese set the Pac-12 record for career 3-pointers Tuesday evening, as the No. 15/25 Oregon State women's basketball team recorded a 75-60 win over Quinnipiac at the #Play4Kay Shootout in Las Vegas, Nev.
Wiese's record setting longball came with 1:28 to play in the third quarter, as she knocked down her 296th career 3-pointer to move past previous record-holder Candice Wiggins.  Â
"I'm so happy for Sydney," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "It's a fantastic accomplishment for her. She had another big game tonight and she played with a lot of heart. I thought our defense was really good start to finish for us tonight. Quinnipiac is a very good team that is going to win a lot of games this year. This was a good team win for us."
With the win, the Beavers advance to take on Oklahoma State in the championship game of the #Play4Kay Shootout.
Wiese finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the contest, hitting on four of her eight shot attempts in the game.
Freshman Mikayla Pivec posted a career-high 17 points, going 6-for-7 from the floor and 3-for-3 from 3-point range in her first career start. Redshirt-junior Breanna Brown went for nine points and six rebounds in the game, while Taylor Kalmer finished with nine points on 3-for-4 shooting. Senior guard Gabriella Hanson also finished with nine points.
As a team, the Beavers shot 42.9 percent (24-for-56) from the floor in the contest, while holding the Bobcats to 36.5 percent (23-for-63) shooting. Oregon State also held a 46-29 advantage on the glass.
Quinnipiac jumped out to an early lead, going ahead 16-6 in the first quarter. The Beavers would surge back from there, getting back within one at the end of the frame. Oregon State continued its momentum into the second period, taking the lead less than three minutes into the frame. The teams would trade punches from there, until the Beavers ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 36-28 advantage into the locker room.
Quinnipiac scored the first five points of the second half to get back within three points. The Bobcats leveled the score with four minutes left in the third period, but Oregon State answered with two 3-pointers from Kat Tudor and one from Kalmer to go up 49-42 late in the frame.
The Beavers would extend the edge to double-figures early in the fourth quarter, and stay in control from there, taking the win by 15 points.
