Coach Andersen Inks Extension
December 20, 2016 | Football
Oregon State University head football coach Gary Andersen has signed a contract extension, university officials announced Tuesday.
Â
Andersen just completed his second year at the helm of the Beavers, and as a result of this extension, is now under contract through the 2021 season.
Â
"We are excited about the direction of our program and the way our young men work to represent Beaver Nation the right way," Andersen said. "We expect to continue to be much improved off and on the field, and I look forward to successful seasons ahead. Go Beavs!"
Â
The Beavers are coming off a season in which they won their last two games of the year and posted three Pac-12 Conference victories. OSU also defeated rival Oregon for the first time since the 2007 season.
Â
"Extending Coach Andersen's contract reflects my belief that we have the coach in place who is capable of taking Beaver football to bowls and conference championships, and preparing our student-athletes to be champions in life beyond football." OSU President Ed Ray said.Â
Â
Under Andersen, the Beavers have produced 29 Pac-12 Academic honorees, set a program record for term GPA, and student-athletes Xavier Crawford and Gus Lavaka were recently selected Freshman All-Americans.
Â
The 2017 season will mark Andersen's ninth as a head coach at the Football Bowl Subdvision (FBS) after highly successful stints at Wisconsin and Utah State. He has been a part of teams that have played in 11 bowl games. During his tenure as a head coach, student-athletes have earned 149 league academic honors and 14 have been selected in the NFL Draft.
Â
The Beavers return to campus next month for the beginning of winter term and offseason workouts Jan. 9. The team resumes practices for the upcoming season in February with the annual Spring Game March 18 at Reser Stadium.
Â
Season tickets for the six-game 2017 home season are available by contacting the OSU Ticket Office at 541-737-2050.
