Beavers drop tough match at Utah Valley

OREM, Utah – The Oregon State wrestling team fell 17-16 to Utah Valley University on Friday night. The Wolverines earned the decisive point by criteria.
The match was tied 16-16 after 10 bouts; both teams won five matches and neither had a fall. But the Wolverines (2-2) scored 78 total points to OSU's (1-3) 72 and earned the bonus point to win by one point for the second straight year.
Senior 141-pounder Joey Palmer got OSU's lone bonus points with a 23-11 major decision. Redshirt sophomore Kegan Calkins (125), freshman Devan Turner (133), junior Joey Delgado (149) and heavyweight Cody Crawford all won by decision.
The Beavers head to Nevada on Friday for Sunday's day-long Reno Tournament of Champions, their final action before Christmas. They conclude the calendar year Dec. 29-30 at the Ken Kraft Midlands Tournament at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
