Oregon State tops UC Davis 93-52 in Beavers Beyond the Classroom Game
CORVALLIS – Senior guard Sydney Wiese recorded the fourth triple-double in Oregon State history, as the No. 15 Oregon State women's basketball team defeated UC Davis 93-52 Wednesday afternoon in its annual Beavers Beyond the Classroom game.
Wiese finished the contest with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, as she joined Ruth Hamblin, Lisa Channel and Judy Spoelstra as the only Oregon State players to ever go for a triple double. The senior was exceptionally efficient in the outing, hitting 10 of her 12 field goal attempts, including six of her seven shots from 3-point range. With her impressive long-range shooting, Wiese moved up to third on the Pac-12 career 3-point list with 289, six short of tying the conference record.
The Beavers played the game in front of a crowd of 5,168, made up primarily of children from local schools. The event marked Oregon State's fifth annual field trip game, as the Beavers remained undefeated in such contests.
"I loved today, I loved everything about it," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "We had some weather complications, but we were really happy with everybody that showed up. A lot of effort and hard work goes into making this day happen. It was a great day for all the kids here and for our team."
Junior Marie Gulich finished with 13 points and six rebounds, while freshman Kat Tudor tallied double-figures for the second-straight game, hitting four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points. Senior Kolbie Orum tallied seven points, five rebounds and four assists, and redshirt-junior Breanna Brown went for seven points, six boards, two steals and a block.
As a team, Oregon State shot 50.7 percent (35-for-69) from the floor and provided assists on 25 of its 35 made baskets. The Beavers limited UC Davis to 31.1 percent (19-for-61) shooting and held a 50-32 advantage in rebounds.
It was all Beavers in the early going, as Oregon State scored the first 15 points of the game on its way to a 23-11 first-quarter lead. Wiese hit three longballs in the opening frame to end the period with 11 points.
The teams traded punches early in the second quarter, before the Beavers used a 12-0 run to go ahead by 22. Oregon State would hold off the Aggies from there to take a 44-22 advantage into the intermission. Wiese had 21 points at the break, shooting 8-for-9 from the floor.
The Beavers picked up right where they left off in the second half, extending the edge to 30 at the third-quarter media timeout. The Beavers would lead by 37 at the end of the third-quarter, on their way to a 41-point win.
Oregon State will open the #Play4Kay Shootout on Monday, as they take on UNLV at 8 p.m. The Beavers will play three games in the tournament, before returning to Gill Coliseum for a matchup with Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Dec. 27.
