Beavers Top NNU 78-51 in Exhibition Matchup

Oregon State opens the regular season Friday vs. Lamar
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's basketball team took care of Northwest Nazarene Saturday afternoon 78-51 in a non-counting exhibition matchup at Gill Coliseum.
Junior Marie Gulich pulled down 19 rebounds in the contest, to go along with eight points. As a team, Oregon State limited Northwest Nazarene to 30.6 percent shooting from the floor, and held a 54-39 advantage on the boards.
The Beaver freshmen made their mark in the contest, as Kat Tudor hit a trio of 3-pointers on her way to 13 points. Fellow first-year Mikayla Pivec finished the game with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Redshirt-junior Breanna Brown tallied 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting and added three blocks to her stat-line. Senior All-Pac-12 Preseason selection Sydney Wiese finished with 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Overall, Oregon State provided assists on 18 of their 24 made baskets, and blocked a total of seven shots.
The Oregon State defense picked up right where it left off at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, holding Northwest Nazarene to two points in first seven minutes of the game. The Beavers would use some balanced scoring to take a 25-10 lead into the second quarter.
Oregon State maintained their advantage in the second frame, holding a 34-18 advantage at the intermission. Senior Kolbie Orum led the Beavers with seven first-half points. Gulich paced the team with 11 rebounds.
OSU got another strong surge to start the fourth quarter, jumping ahead by 20 early in the frame. The Beavers would not look back from there, using a 3-point barrage to claim the victory by 27 points.
All four Oregon State freshmen saw the floor in the contest, making their debut at Gill Coliseum.
The Beavers will open the 2016-17 regular season on Friday, when they play host to Lamar. That game will tip off at 2 p.m. Tickets for all Oregon State games are available at Beavertickets.com.
