STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomore quarterback Marcus McMaryion and senior wide receiver Victor Bolden Jr. teamed up on the longest completion and reception of their careers on Saturday but the Oregon State football team fell 26-15 to Stanford at Stanford Stadium.

McMaryion threw a 75-yard TD pass to Bolden to bring the Beavers (2-7, 1-5 Pac-12) within 10-7 at 10:56 of the second quarter. His previous longest completion was 48 yards against Washington State on Oct. 29; Bolden's previous long catch was 72 yards against Washington in 2014.

Sophomore tailback Ryan Nall added a 52-yard run in the third quarter to set up OSU's second touchdown, a three-yard run by McMaryion on the first play of the fourth quarter. McMaryion then got OSU within 23-15 on a 2-point conversion pass to senior tight end Ricky Ortiz but the Beavers could draw no closer.

"We did get close but I am tired and we all are really tired of close," OSU coach Gary Andersen said. "It's harder and harder and harder as we move through time.

"But we played with physicality. We gave up some big running plays that was disheartening but those kids fought their tails off on defense. When they got big, we got big with them. We wanted to swing with them that was good to see.

"Offensively we were inadequate except for some big plays, the sustained drives were non-existent," and Stanford controlled time of possession by almost 20 minutes. "We won't win in those situations. Those things have to change for us to have a chance to win.

"We will continue to work at it."

Nall now has five runs of 40 or more yards this season and sixth in his career. He finished with 77 yards on 10 carries and now has rushed for a team-leading 672 yards on the season.

Redshirt freshman cornerback Xavier Crawford, freshman linebacker Andrzej Hughes-Murray and junior linebacker Manase Hungalu each had nine tackles, and one tackle for loss apiece. Crawford has his first career sack; he and Hughes-Murray set career highs for tackles.

The Beavers resume Pac-12 action at UCLA at 6 p.m. on Nov. 12, at the Rose Bowl in a game to be televised by the Pac-12 Network. Their next home game is Nov. 19 vs. Arizona, at a time to be determined.
