Senior Makes the List for the Second-Straight Season
CORVALLIS – Oregon State women's basketball standout Sydney Wiese has been named to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List. The list, which is selected by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, highlights the 50 leading contenders for this season's National Player of the Year.
Wiese was named to the Lieberman Award (best point guard) Watch List earlier this month, and was on the Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List last season. The senior is averaging 12.3 points per game this year, to go along with 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per contest. Wiese notched her first double-double of the season against Marquette last Tuesday, going for 15 points and 11 assists.
Wiese is a three-time All-Pac-12 honoree, and is already closing in on the conference record for career 3-pointers. The Phoenix, Ariz. native sits eighth in Oregon State history with 1,325 career points, and is fourth with 483 assists. Wiese was an All-America Honorable Mention, Pac-12 All-Tournament honoree and All-Dallas Regional selection in 2015-16.
A communication major, Wiese has also earned Pac-12 Second-Team All-Academic honors the last two seasons.
Oregon State, which is ranked No. 18 in the nation in this week's USA Today/WBCA Coaches' Poll, is in Maui this week for the Maui Jim Maui Classic. The Beavers will take on Idaho on Friday and BYU on Saturday, with both games tipping off at 8:30 p.m. PT. OSU will return home on Dec. 10 to take on Southern Utah.
