The junior is now eligible to be voted as an Academic All-American
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State junior outside hitter Mary-Kate Marshall has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team, the organization announced on Thursday.
Â
Marshall, a kinesiology major, is now eligible to be named an Academic All-American, with voting for the honor starting next week.
Â
The distinction is the second academically during Marshall's career, but the first on a national level. She was named an All-Pac-12 Academic Honorable Mention selection in 2015.
Â
Marshall joins Tayla Woods (2013) as recent Oregon State players to be named Academic All-District. Gina Schmidt was named an Academic All-American in 2000 and 2001.
Â
Marshall, a Coppell, Texas native, ranks second in the Pac-12 Conference with 4.61 points per set. She's also third in kills per set at 4.07.
Â
A junior, she's already seventh in Oregon State history with 1,273 kills, and is within striking distance of sixth as the Beavers take on Washington State and Washington this weekend. Marshall ranks 36th in kills amongst active players nationally, and is fourth when considering only juniors.
Â
Oregon State heads to the state of Washington next weekend for a pair of matches against the Huskies and Cougars. The Beavers open at Washington State Friday night at 7 p.m., followed by a Sunday match at Washington that starts at 3 p.m.
