Harlow Leads Five Beavers on All-Conference Team
November 29, 2016 | Football
SAN FRANCISCO – Five Oregon State football players were selected to the Pac-12 All-Conference team as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning. Senior Sean Harlow led the way for the Beavers as a second team selection.
Â
Harlow finished his career with 37 starts, including nine straight at left tackle, to end the season after returning from injury. His return to the lineup and a reshuffle of the entire offensive line coincided with the line's vast improvement down the stretch as the Beavers allowed only 12 sacks in conference play to finish third in the league. In addition, Harlow helped pave the way for OSU's rushers to set a school-record of 5.2 yards per carry for the season.
Â
Four Beavers also received honorable mention including freshman cornerback Xavier Crawford, senior cornerback Treston Decoud, freshman offensive lineman Gus Lavaka and sophomore running back Ryan Nall.
Â
Crawford earned a vacant starting spot at cornerback making a late push in fall camp and held the spot throughout the season. He tied for the team lead with 10 pass breakups and recorded his first career interception against Arizona. Crawford recorded 70 tackles, including two tackles-for-loss and a sack, and a forced fumble on the season.
Â
Decoud, like Crawford, started all 12 games at cornerback, finishing his career with 21 starts, for the Beavers recording 58 tackles including two tackles-for-loss and tied Crawford with, a team-best, 10 pass breakups. He was honored with Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors following his two interception performance against Idaho State, in which he returned one of his picks for a touchdown.
Â
Lavaka, along with Harlow, was part of the Beavers' offensive line makeover in the season's fourth game. Forced into the lineup by an injury early in the Colorado game, Lavaka proved to be a road grader starting seven of the final eight games helping the Beavers to average 238 yards per game on the ground in his starts.
Â
Nall finished the season with 951 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns despite missing most of three games. While his ability to break tackles and pick up yards after contact along with his speed to outrun defenders was impressive throughout the 2016 season, his versatility in the passing game was also remarkable as he finished the season third on the team with 22 receptions for 214 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Nall rushed for more than 100 yards in four games on the season and earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors after he ran for 155 yards and four touchdowns in the Beavers' win over Oregon in the season finale.
Â
The Beavers wrapped up their season last Saturday by defeating Oregon, 34-24, in the Civil War presented by PacificSource Health Plans, Spirit Mountain Casino, Safeway/Albertsons and Your Local Toyota Dealers. Season tickets for the 2017 campaign are now on sale by calling 541-737-2050.
